Founded in 1461 around the first bedesten built by Sultan Mehmed II, the Grand Bazaar, Kapalıçarşı, grew over centuries into the commercial heart of the Ottoman capital. Special access to the restored rooftop reveals the bazaar from above: lead-covered domes, chimneys and a roofscape framed by the silhouettes of Hagia Sophia and the Süleymaniye Mosque.
